As part of FFA Day At the Capital, the Marlin FFA Officers visited the State Capitol, in Austin, Texas. Those attending included Daniel Pillow, Jacob Robles, Itzel Carrizales, Cheyanna Mendoza, Manual Soto, Tanner Bethke, and Advisor Chas Brantner. While at the Capitol the students took a guided tour, met with Representative Kyle Kacal, Representative Trent Ashby, and visited Senator Brian Birdwell’s office . Each student had their favorite experience which included the history of the capital, the art work exhibited, and the Medal of Honor winners from Texas exhibit. By touring the Senate and House Chambers the students were better able to understand how our Legislature works. The high point of the day was when the students met with Representative Kacal in the Texas Agriculture Museum. They were surprised that their representative could be that easy to talk with and is willing to help them in any way he can. They also enjoyed visiting with Representative Trent Ashby, who is a past FFA State Officer. The students would encourage anyone to meet their representatives and develop a relationship whereby they can communicate their concerns on the issues that impact them. The students are more aware of the importance of being involved in politics and how it affects their everyday life. They would like to extend their thanks to Representative Kacal, Terra Willet, Representative Ashby, and Senator Birdwell’s office for this opportunity and for their hospitality.
